Privacy & Data Retention Policy

Who we are
Makefast is the data controller for personal data collected through this website. You can contact us at sales@makefast.com or Unit 31, Mochdre Industrial Estate, Newtown, Wales, SY16 4LE.
What we collect and why
We collect only what we need to respond to business enquiries and to keep the site secure and useful: the details you submit through our enquiry forms, and limited technical information about your visit (IP address, approximate location derived from it, pages viewed, referring site, browser and device type).
We do not sell personal data, and we do not use it for automated decision-making or profiling.
Lawful basis
Contract / pre-contract steps — handling your enquiry and quotation. Legitimate interests — securing the site, preventing abuse, and measuring how the site performs, balanced against your privacy. Legal obligation — where records must be kept for tax, export-control or contractual reasons.
Data retention policy
Personal data is kept only as long as it is needed. Retention is enforced automatically by a nightly clean-up process, not manually.
| Data | Purpose | Retention |
|---|---|---|
| Enquiry form submissions (name, company, email, phone, message, uploaded drawings) | Responding to and fulfilling B2B enquiries | 24 months from submission, then deleted automatically |
| Visitor logs (IP address, approximate location, page, referrer, device) | Security, abuse prevention and understanding site traffic | IP address and user agent erased after 30 days; record deleted after 90 days |
| Form interaction (funnel) events | Diagnosing usability problems with our enquiry forms | 180 days |
| Site search logs | Improving product findability | 180 days |
| Email delivery logs and unsubscribe records | Proving delivery and honouring opt-outs | 12 months (unsubscribe records kept as needed to respect opt-outs) |
Where a live commercial relationship exists, enquiry records may be retained for the duration of that relationship plus any statutory record-keeping period.
Cookies and third-party analytics
This site uses Google Ads conversion tracking, Microsoft Clarity and the LinkedIn Insight Tag. These providers may set cookies and process technical data as independent or joint controllers under their own privacy notices. You can block cookies in your browser settings without losing access to the site's content.
Sharing and international transfers
Personal data is stored on our hosting and database infrastructure and shared only with processors that support the site (hosting, database, email delivery and the analytics providers above). Where data is transferred outside the UK, it is protected by UK adequacy regulations or standard contractual clauses.
Security
Enquiry data, visitor logs and analytics records are held in a database that is not readable by public website visitors; access is restricted to authorised Makefast staff and server-side processes over encrypted connections.
Your rights
Under UK GDPR you have the right to access, rectify, erase, restrict or object to our processing of your personal data, and the right to data portability. Email sales@makefast.com and we will respond within one month. If you are unhappy with our response you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk).
